US Open champions: recent winners and record holders
In brief
In 2025, Carlos Alcaraz won the ATP title and Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended her WTA title. In the Open Era (since 1968), Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer share the men's record with five titles each; on the women's side, Chris Evert and Serena Williams share the top spot with six titles each.
Who won the US Open in 2024 and 2025
The men's title race has produced two different winners over the last two editions. In 2024, Jannik Sinner claimed his first US Open title. A year later, in 2025, defending champion Sinner had to hand the title to Carlos Alcaraz, who won the final 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. For Alcaraz, that was his second US Open title and his sixth Grand Slam title overall.
On the women's side there was more continuity: Aryna Sabalenka won the title in both 2024 and 2025, successfully defending her trophy in 2025. That gives her two US Open titles in a row.
| Edition | Men's champion | Women's champion |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Sinner (1st US Open title) | Sabalenka |
| 2025 | Alcaraz vs Sinner (6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4) | Sabalenka (title defended) |
These two editions show just how tight the level is at the top: on the men's side the title changed hands, while on the women's side it stayed put. For the full course of both tournaments, including the score in earlier rounds, see the US Open results page.

Before the Open Era
When the tournament was still open to amateurs only, Molla Mallory won eight times. That record is generally not placed alongside the modern Open Era list, since tennis and the field of competitors were fundamentally different at the time.
