WC 2026 Teams: All 48 Qualified Nations

Last updated: June 2026

48 nations qualified for WC 2026, up from 32 at Qatar 2022. The expanded field changes the path-to-final structure, and the spread of confederation places redistributes representation across UEFA, CAF, AFC, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and OFC.

This hub lists every qualified team, organised by confederation, with the group draw, current the tournament ranking and outright market read. Every team has its own dedicated page with squad, fixtures and per-stage odds.

Spots per confederation

The 48 places break down as follows, with the three host nations counted under CONCACAF.

Confederation Direct spots Play-off route
UEFA (Europe)16-
CAF (Africa)91
AFC (Asia)81
CONMEBOL (South America)61
CONCACAF (incl. 3 hosts)62
OFC (Oceania)11

Two intercontinental play-off winners (drawn from CAF, AFC, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and OFC) take the last 2 spots, bringing the field to 48.

UEFA: 16 European nations

Europe has the largest contingent. The 16 UEFA qualifiers came through 12 groups, with 12 group winners qualifying directly and 4 places decided via play-off.

CAF: 9 African nations

Africa's allocation grew from 5 to 9 direct spots, with one more via the intercontinental play-off. Morocco's 2022 semi-final run sets the bar; Senegal, Egypt and Algeria join the established names.

AFC: 8 Asian nations

Asia jumped from 4 to 8 direct spots. Japan and Korea Republic remain the favourites among the AFC contingent; IR Iran, Australia and Saudi Arabia complete the established core.

CONMEBOL: 6 South American nations

South America has 6 direct spots and 1 play-off route. With only 10 CONMEBOL members and the historical depth in the region, the qualifying margin is unusually narrow.

CONCACAF: 6 incl. 3 hosts

The three host nations automatically qualify. Three other CONCACAF spots came through regional qualifying. Two further play-off routes are open.

OFC and intercontinental play-offs

Oceania has 1 direct spot for the first time. The intercontinental play-off mini-tournament fills the final 2 places, with one team each from CAF, AFC, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and OFC competing.

The intercontinental play-off line-up confirms close to the tournament; the two qualifiers there are the final teams added to the 48-team field.

Group draw at a glance

The 48 teams are split across 12 groups (A through L) of 4 teams each. Top 2 per group plus the 8 best third-placed teams advance to the round of 32. For the full draw and every group's fixture list, see the groups page.
