1. When and Where Is the WC 2026 final?

The final is staged on Sunday 19 July 2026 at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, just outside New York City. Kick-off is at 21:00 Belgian time, with the local New York start at 15:00 in the afternoon. The match is broadcast worldwide, including across the Belgian sports networks.

The choice of venue and date sits inside a well-defined window. The tournament starts on Thursday 11 June 2026 in Mexico City, and the final follows five weeks and three days later. Between the opening match and the final there are 104 fixtures across 16 stadiums in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

For the full match calendar with kick-off times by Belgian time, see the WC 2026 schedule. The wider tournament structure is covered on the WC 2026 hub.

2. The New York New Jersey Stadium: Capacity, Surface and Setup

The New York New Jersey Stadium is the home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets. It opened in 2010 and has a regular capacity above 82,000. The listed tournament capacity for the final is 82,500.

Venue MetLife Stadium (New York New Jersey Stadium)
Location East Rutherford, New Jersey, United States
Listed tournament capacity 82,500
Opened 2010
Roof Open-air
Surface for tournament Natural grass, installed over the regular artificial pitch

Two details worth flagging. First, the stadium uses an artificial surface for NFL season football, and the tournament requires natural grass. A specialist grass overlay is installed for the tournament and tended in the weeks before the final, with similar conversions used at other stadium hosts. Second, it is is an open-air bowl. The forecast on the night will be a topic in pre-match coverage, with mid-July evening temperatures in northern New Jersey typically in the low to mid 20s Celsius.

The grass-overlay process is a tournament-wide operation. Sod farms across North America have been growing dedicated turf for the venues since 2024, with the goal of providing a consistent, tournament-spec playing surface at every stadium regardless of its regular configuration. For an venue like MetLife, that means lifting the synthetic surface, installing a drainage and root-zone layer, and then laying the natural grass in the weeks before the tournament. Pitch quality typically peaks in the second half of the tournament, which works in the final's favour.

The stadium sits inside the Meadowlands sports complex, about 8 kilometres west of Midtown Manhattan. It is reachable by NJ Transit train, by car (with extensive parking) and by shuttle from Secaucus Junction. Miami Stadium in Miami hosts the play-off for third place the day before, on Saturday 18 July.

3. How Teams Reach the Final: the Bracket Route

In the expanded 48-team format, a finalist plays eight matches in total: three group games plus five knockout ties. That is one more than the route to the trophy in 2022, when the bracket started with the Round of 16. Group winners and runners-up go straight to the Round of 32, joined by the eight best third-placed sides.

The knockout calendar runs from Sunday 28 June (start of the Round of 32) through to the final on Sunday 19 July. The two semi-finals are played on Tuesday 14 July at AT&T Stadium in Dallas and Wednesday 15 July at Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta. The winners of those two matches play the final four days later.

5. Belgium and the WC 2026 Final

Belgium have never reached a WC final. The 2018 third-place finish in Russia remains the best achievement for the Red Devils, with the 1986 semi-final the only other tournament-best finish on the record. A run to the 2026 final would be historic, and the bracket route is somewhat of a rollercoaster with some big performances needed.

Belgium were drawn into Group G alongside IR Iran, Egypt and New Zealand, with the board pricing them at 1.28 to top the group. The projected route from a Group G top finish runs through Seattle, then Houston or Philadelphia, then a quarter-final at Boston Stadium in Boston, and finally a semi-final at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. That semi-final on Tuesday 14 July is exactly four days before MetLife.

The outright price of 40.00 puts Belgium 10th in the list of potential winners. For matchday previews, news and tipping for the Belgians all the way to a possible final, the predictions hub updates daily, with extra Belgium analysis surfaced as the tournament approaches.

6. Recent the WC Final History

A look back at the last five tournaments shows a clear pattern: European and South American sides have shared the final between them, with Spain, Germany, France, Argentina and Argentina again splitting the trophies between 2010 and 2022.

Year Result Host Venue
2022 Argentina 3-3 France (Argentina 4-2 pens) Qatar Lusail Stadium
2018 France 4-2 Croatia Russia Luzhniki Stadium
2014 Germany 1-0 Argentina (after extra time) Brazil Maracanã
2010 Spain 1-0 Netherlands (after extra time) South Africa Soccer City
2006 Italy 1-1 France (Italy 5-3 pens) Germany Olympiastadion

Three of the last five finals have gone to extra time or penalties, with only the 2018 final settled inside 90 minutes. That tactical reality, where elite sides tend to neutralise each other in the showpiece, helps explain why the under 2.5 goals market is often close to even money in pre-match books. The 2022 final in Lusail is the outlier: six goals plus a penalty shoot-out, all in one evening.

The golden boot race is another final-week storyline worth following. Recent winners include Kylian Mbappé in 2022, Harry Kane in 2018 and James Rodríguez in 2014. The format-by-format trend is clear: shorter tournaments tend to produce lower top-scorer totals, while deeper runs by attacking sides can push the lead scorer past six goals. With 104 fixtures in 2026 and a longer route for the eventual finalists, the top-scorer total could push higher than recent years.

7. What to Expect on the Night

For Belgian viewers, 21:00 CEST is a viewer-friendly slot. The match runs into the evening with a likely finish around 23:00 local time, assuming no extra time. With penalties, the broadcast can stretch past midnight. The opening ceremony precedes the kick-off, with pre-match build-up beginning a couple of hours earlier on most broadcasters.

Live match markets at Napoleon Sports cover the obvious in-play options (next goal, next card, total goals over and under) plus deeper player props once the line-ups are confirmed. For the live centre and in-play streaming on selected matches, see the live betting hub.
